Making a Difference in Air Quality

At the Okanogan River Airshed Partnership, we’re focused on protecting the health of our communities by working together to understand and reduce PM2.5 air pollution in the Okanogan Valley.

We support local, non-regulatory projects that help people:

  • Learn how air quality affects their health

  • Reduce smoke from wood stoves and open burning

  • Access cleaner heating options

  • Understand and track PM2.5 levels in real time

Much of the PM2.5 pollution in our region comes from wood smoke, especially during the colder months when weather traps smoke near the ground. That’s why we focus on community education and clean-burning solutions.

We also connect residents to no-cost wood stove replacement programs through the Colville Tribes and Okanogan County.

Our mission

To protect the health of our communities by working together to understand and reduce PM2.5 air pollution in the Okanogan River Airshed- through local education, partnerships, and access to cleaner burning solutions.

We focus on community-driven solutions that make a real difference- like sharing clean air tips, support free wood stove replacement programs, and helping people understand how smoke affects our health. Together, we can keep our air cleaner and our communities healthier.

Making an impact

In Spring 2021, the Okanogan River Airshed Partnership awarded certificates of recognition to the City of Okanogan Public Works and City of Omak Public Works.

Both cities organized Curbside Yard Waste Collection Events, where community members can leave yard debris at the curb to be picked up and disposed of for free. These events give people a safer option than burning- and help keep the air cleaner for everyone.

We’re proud to recognize these local efforts that support healthier air and healthier neighborhoods.
